PACKED CELL

INDICATIONS

1.     Acute haemorrhage/blood loss
2.     Symptomatic anaemia due to:
    • Bone marrow failure or hypoproliferative anaemia (haematological malignancy, marrow suppression by chemotherapy or radiotherapy, Aplastic anaemia, MDS, myelofibrosis
    • Severe nutritional anaemia (Iron, folate, or vitamin B12 deficiency) especially in elderly patients with angina or Congested Cardiac Failure
    • Severe Haemolytic anaemia- when anaemia is poor tolerated and Hb < 7 g/dl

 

PLATELET

INDICATIONS

  1. Treatment or prevention of bleeding due to:
    • thrombocytopenia (e.g. bone marrow failure, dengue hemorrhagic fever, leukemia)
    • platelet dysfunction

FRESH FROZEN PLASMA (FFP)

INDICATIONS

1.     Treatment of bleeding due to:

    • Multiple coagulation factor deficiencies (acute DIC, liver failure)
    • Reversal of warfarin effect
    • Acute DIC
    • Vitamin K deficiency

2.     TTP (for exchange transfusion)

    • Massive blood transfusion

CRYOPRECIPITATE

INDICATIONS

  1. Treatment of bleeding due to:
    • Acute DIC (to replenish factor VIII or fibrinogen)
    • Hypofibrinogenemia/dysfibrinogenemia
    • FXIII deficiency
    • von Willebrand disease if factor VIII/VWF concentrate is not available
