INDICATIONS
- Treatment or prevention of bleeding due to:
- thrombocytopenia (e.g. bone marrow failure, dengue hemorrhagic fever, leukemia)
- platelet dysfunction
PACKED CELL
INDICATIONS
1. Acute haemorrhage/blood loss
2. Symptomatic anaemia due to:
- Bone marrow failure or hypoproliferative anaemia (haematological malignancy, marrow suppression by chemotherapy or radiotherapy, Aplastic anaemia, MDS, myelofibrosis
- Severe nutritional anaemia (Iron, folate, or vitamin B12 deficiency) especially in elderly patients with angina or Congested Cardiac Failure
- Severe Haemolytic anaemia- when anaemia is poor tolerated and Hb < 7 g/dl
FRESH FROZEN PLASMA (FFP)
INDICATIONS
1. Treatment of bleeding due to:
- Multiple coagulation factor deficiencies (acute DIC, liver failure)
- Reversal of warfarin effect
- Acute DIC
- Vitamin K deficiency
2. TTP (for exchange transfusion)
- Massive blood transfusion
CRYOPRECIPITATE
INDICATIONS
- Treatment of bleeding due to:
- Acute DIC (to replenish factor VIII or fibrinogen)
- Hypofibrinogenemia/dysfibrinogenemia
- FXIII deficiency
- von Willebrand disease if factor VIII/VWF concentrate is not available
