MEASURING LUNG FUNCTION

A: Spiroanalyser
Spiroanalyser is a medical device used to assess the patient's lung function. It is a type of spirometer that measures how fast the air flows in or out as the volume of air inhaled or exhaled increases

2. Indications of performing the test


• To help in the diagnosis of disease (obstructive or restrictive type)
• To evaluate the extent and progress of the disease
• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment
• To assess the risk for surgical procedures

FVC : Force Vital Capacity
FEVT : Forced expiratory volume timed
FEV1 : Forced expiratory volume in one second
PEF : Peak expiratory flow
FEV1/FVC ratio

Examples of diseases


• Obstructive pulmonary diseases: emphysema, chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma
• Restrictive pulmonary diseases: fibrosis, sarcoidosis, neuromuscular disorder, chest
wall abnormalities
