1. Acute haemorrhage/blood loss
2. Symptomatic anaemia due to:
- Bone marrow failure or hypoproliferative anaemia (haematological malignancy, marrow suppression by chemotherapy or radiotherapy, Aplastic anaemia, MDS, myelofibrosis
- Severe nutritional anaemia (Iron, folate, or vitamin B12 deficiency) especially in elderly patients with angina or CCF
- Severe Haemolytic anaemia- when anaemia is poor tolerated and Hb < 7 g/dl
