The exhibit displays a fungating blackish mass (45x40x40mm) at the tip of the finger. The mass has infiltrated deep into the bone and surrounding soft tissue. The surgical margin is free from tumour.
Melanoma shows infiltrating tumour cells arranged in small nest and sheets. The cells are markedly pleomorphic, round to oval nulcei, coarse chromatin with large prominent nucleoli and moderate amount of eosinophilic cytoplasm. Mitosis easily seen including atypical form. No neurotization identified.
